Recent Amendments in Banking Hours: Saturday

3

With so much of chaos on Saturday as a full day working, I tried to see the basic for all this “Is this a good news? As a banker, should I be Happy? As a customer, should I be disappointed?”

and then I tried recalling, when is the last time that I had visited any – the so called “mortar and brick bank”, consider it for any age group being away from the hub-hub activity, couldn’t recall any for the last few months !

Why do we need to go to a bank, except when you are dealing in cash, getting a Pay order/Draft made, some certificates signed and/or maybe someone to meet 😉

So what difference will it make by keeping them closed or opened for lesser/extended time.

Long ago, the early 2005/2006 new age Banks like Times Bank, Bank of Punjab and IndusInd Bank wanted to open their branches for extended hours, because they “wanted the customers to come to their branch and feel the change” in atmosphere like air-conditioned offices, good decor, ambiance, tea-coffee, pretty looking RM, etc.

That was their way to invite customers!

It’s been a decade to that of banking and it has evolved through many phases.

It is no more the same. Since banks work on productivity of each employee vis-a-vis the cost incurred.Every Bank while mapping the customer looks at the “transactional cost” it incurs on each of them. A transactional cost in simple terms is the “cost, time, money and energy required of an employee in interaction/dealing with one customer for his/her banking needs”

Hence fewer “human interaction” and pushing customer to “other modes of banking like ATM/Debit cards/Internet banking/Phone banking” etc is always “a cheap and easy cost option”

Now, RBI and all banks ( Private as well as Public Sector)  have  willingly accepted the change in Banking Hours and allowed every second and the fourth Saturday of every month as public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (26 of 1881) with effect from September 1, 2015 it’s clearly marking a “special path to our PM-Shri Modiji’s dream of less cash transaction and more non-cash transactions in the Economy which will help deter cash transaction – a deadly evil’s hand in ever growing parallel (black money) economy!

Understanding Savings Bank Account

1

Dear Aspirant,

In this article we will learn and explore about the Savings Account , a very basic account offered by the Banks across the globe.

According to Investopedia: “A deposit account held at a bank or other financial institution that provides principal security and a modest interest rate.”

Savings account is a form of demand deposit, meaning, the money kept in the savings account can be demanded based on need. Savings account is generally opened by the salaried class employees who want to save the money for their future requirements.

Key points about the Savings Bank Account:

  • The most important feature of the Savings account is that it yields interest.
  • The account holder must maintain a minimum balance in the Savings bank account known as minimum balance condition.
  • In India, the money kept in savings account draws modest rate of interest. Earlier the rate of interest on the savings account was governed by Reserve Bank of India but now this rate of interest is decided by the concerned bank under the guidelines of Reserve Bank of India. At present, Savings account (generally) gives 4% rate of interest ( in majority of the banks). There are some banks like, Yes Bank, that offers 7% rate of interest and Kotak Mahindra Bank that offers 6% rate of interest.
  • Earlier this rate of interest was calculated on the minimum balance between the 10th of every month and the last date of the month (whichever it is). Now a days, the interest calculation is done on the Daily Product Basis, i.e. daily balance is counted and interest is paid accordingly.
  • As a rule Savings bank accounts do not offer Overdraft facility but facilitates occasional withdrawal to meet emergency needs.
  • The number of withdrawals is also restricted in a specified period of time.
  • An account holder is supposed to maintain a minimum balance in Savings account, more with cheque book facility and relatively less without chequebook facility.
  • Savings account is a very important tool in effective mobilization of funds.

Sutras to crack SSC Mains Examination

4
Sutras to crack SSC Mains
Sutras to crack SSC Mains

Dear Aspirants,

As you are through with the SSC’ Preliminary examination-2015 and must be anxiously waiting for the declaration of Preliminary examination held on 9th and 16th of August 2015 respectively, there are some common mistakes that many aspirants generally commit during this critical time period before the declaration of the pre result. Here are some SUTRAS that can help you immensely in ensuring your success in the ensuing SSC Mains examination.

  1. Please DONOT wait for Pre result to come out while starting the preparation for the mains examination.
  2. Start preparing for the mains examination quickly after you are through with the Pre examination (already 19 days have lapsed!!) as it is understood that you have really prepared hard for the Pre examination and you must be quite sure about succeeding the prelims.
  3. As you all know that in Mains ONLY English and Quant is tested, so the first thing that you must do is quickly go through the syllabus of these subjects as given in the notification, analyse very thoroughly as to what are your strong and what are your weak areas in both the subjects respectively.
  4. Be very clear as to what exactly is your weak areas of concern, do a microanalysis of these subjects, as soon as you arrive at the conclusion, please use all the resources to master the area by solving as many questions as possible available to you on that particular area / topic.
  5. In this process of mastering your weak areas , if you strongly feel the need to revisit the concept , please do that and use standard resources in doing that. Ensure that the so perceived ‘weak areas’ turns into ‘strong areas’. This is the real area of HARD WORK, so do your level best to convert ‘WEAK’ into ‘Strong’, areas. Take help of Faculty, Conceptual Books, Friends and Help from Internet, You tube and various other useful websites to master the areas of your concern.
  6. In order to strengthen your fundamentals, PRACTICE, as much as questions from standard sources , like Funda books , Class exercises, and other standard resources.
  1. Last but NOT the least, please start practicing quality mocks on daily basis once you are through with the building of Fundamentals and practicing questions as much as possible.

Kindly do take the mock(s) at the actual designated time of the actual Main examination so that you are acclimatised to the actual examination scenario and gradually you start performing at your best within that particular time period.

  1. Please solve mocks at your discretion, it can be 1 or 2 in a day depending upon your level of preparedness and willingness to do the mocks, but please ENSURE that you analyse the MOCKS You must see the solution of the mocks given at the answers and explanation section, see both the type of questions and their solutions , the ones you are able to solve easily and the ones which you could not solve , learn if there are any short cuts involved in solving the questions and internalise them .

In ensuring that you stick to achieve your goal , would like to quote Swami Vivekananda who said ‘Arise , Awake and Stop NOT till the goal is reached.’

At the end, we are very sure if you follow the above given advises thoroughly then, SUCCESS is bound to follow.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome!!

Wish You All The Very Best !!
