3.CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2022 Paper Pattern

The new CBSE Class 10 Board Exam paper has a very different pattern from previous years.

5 mark questions have been introduced in the CBSE Math paper. These are long answer questions that are mostly based on the NCERT Maths Textbook.

Case Study questions have been introduced for the very first time. These are conceptual questions based on real-life applications. These will form 20% of the paper, which is 16 marks.

Objective Type Questions which are in the form of 1 mark questions such as V.S.A ( very short answer questions), MCQs ( Multiple Choice Questions), Fill in the Blanks, True or False Questions will form 30% of the paper, which is 24 marks.

Hence 50% of the paper ( 40 marks) will be Competency-Based Questions that assess the application of concepts in real-life/ unfamiliar.

The detailed question paper pattern for CBSE Board Exam 2022 has not been released yet. Below is the Question Paper pattern followed in 2021.

The CBSE Class 10 Board question paper 2021 contained two parts A and B.

5) CBSE Class 10 Maths Case Study Questions

The CBSE Class 10 Maths Exam will be most likely conducted in March 2022. The CBSE has included case study based questions for the Class 10 Maths Board Exam for the very first time. There will be four case study sets in the Class 10 Maths Board Question Paper (as per the 2021 paper pattern) each with 5 sub-questions.

Students need to attempt 4 of these sub-questions. The case study section alone is worth 16 marks which is 20% of the total marks, which students cannot risk losing.

Such type of questions is entirely new for the Class 10 students. These case studies will check the comprehension and interpretation skills of the students. The NCERT Math Class 10 textbook, previous board papers and regular school worksheets do not give the best insights on how to grasp, understand, or solve these seemingly long questions in the shortest time possible. The problem is there a huge dependency on memorizing and reproducing content. Even in Math, as long as the question is familiar, students have the confidence to solve it. This type of study does not work for solving case studies. In addition to memory, students need to understand the case study, see how to apply learnt concepts, and then solve the questions.

Students may join the Case Study 101 Course for sufficient practice for Case Study Type Questions. The course covers all important aspects of Case Study preparation, including out of box thinking and mathematical literacy which will help in scoring 16 out of 16 marks in the Case Studies.

Significance of Management Education post pandemic

0

Although the pandemic is not over yet, the impact it shall leave on our economy is visible. The unprecedented challenges posed by pandemic have forced us to rethink management education. Traditional ways of working might be redundant in this new normal and students need to acquire skills that make them capable of facing the challenges with courage and confidence. The business environment can be characterized by the acronym VUCA which stands for Volatile, Complex, Uncertain and Ambiguous. Economic recessions and natural calamities are not new, and managers know how to traverse through the business cycles, but this pandemic has completely transformed the way we live, work, collaborate and communicate. Management Education needs to nurture leaders and trailblazers to grapple with challenges of the dynamic business world and the changing landscape of the economy post-pandemic. The Academic learning at business schools needs to resonate with the idea of sustainable development and evolved business practices. The students need to be trained through experiential learning using live projects, real-life case studies, simulations, and games to build their employability skills. The schools need to incorporate flipped classrooms to equip participants with the competence of both analysis and synthesis to function in the global economy. Post pandemic the management programs need to be designed to develop ethical and socially-oriented leaders who create value for their organizations and society at large. The knowledge economy needs both managerial and technical skills derived from appropriate training and exposure to real-world challenges.

The Curriculum needs to be structured to cover the foundations of management theory and practice and flexible enough to include latest advancements in the field of business like blockchain, Artificial Intelligence Machine learning, virtual reality, and data analytics. Strong foundations provided to students in definitive areas of management offers them an edge not only to face competition but also generate employment opportunities.

To make students industry ready, workshops, seminars and guest lectures need to be delivered by industry experts. A management program prepares participants for both career and life. This academic program instills analytical and critical thinking ability, decision-making skills, develops leadership skills, and fosters teamwork to manage and lead in a dynamic and innovative economic landscape.

One way to boost economic growth post-pandemic would be to focus on creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem at a fundamental level. Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) at the Management institutions can help students to convert their innovative ideas into successful ventures. Presence of an On-Campus Incubator at Amity University helps students to start their own businesses and create employment opportunities for many others”, says Prof (Dr.) Amit Jain, Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean, Faculty of Management, Amity University Jaipur.

The focus should be to achieve academic excellence through industry integration, experiential learning, innovative pedagogy, and research in this age of disruption. Being multilingual and understanding of cross-cultural communication helps managers to advance their business operations globally.

Amity’s new age MBA programs provide compulsory inclusion of a foreign language in their curriculum, in addition to English, like French, German, Spanish or Mandarin. The Study abroad program that also includes a 3 continent program helps budding managers gain global exposure. The university has curated soft skill modules and behavioral science courses that can help students to understand and manage human resources. The multidisciplinary nature of management education makes it one of the most sought-after programs today and will be in great demand post-pandemic to rebuild the economy.

0

A program exclusively focusing on ‘CRC – Compliance, Regulatory and Contracts Management” in Infrastructure Sector

Laws have been with us for centuries. Laws have governed modern societies to ensure an equitable system. Do you know that India has over 1200 laws? Add to it countless rules, notifications, interpretations, and alterations! In this scenario, how do we learn about the Law for business? At AIIM, we have found an effective way.

For over a decade now, we have successfully been teaching AICTE-approved 2-year full-time PGDM (Infrastructure Management) program. While teaching the complexities of infrastructure from a management perspective, we developed enormous insights into the legal & regulatory aspects of the infrastructure sector. We also realized that managing these regulatory aspects requires a different program by itself!

So, here we are – with India’s first and only AICTE approved 2-year full-time Post- Graduate Diploma in Management (Law) – PGDM (Law) – Program exclusively focusing on ‘legal & regulatory’ expertise in infrastructure management!

Introduced in 2019, it is a revolutionary program that focuses on ‘CRC – Compliance, Regulatory and Contracts Management’ in the Infrastructure Sector.

We have carefully designed this interdisciplinary program with extensive learnings from our parent organization Adani Group’s large infrastructure businesses, valuable inputs from industry and law practitioners and insightful contributions from policy makers.

In two years, students are exposed to core management functions in the areas of economics & finance, people management & communication, and strategy & operations. They get deep understanding of major infrastructure sectors and their complexities, such as ports, power, renewables, real estate, urban infrastructure, oil & gas, mines & minerals, shipping, airports, public systems, etc. We then weave the threads of legal and regulatory learnings and teach laws from a real-world perspective.

The students get intense exposure and application-oriented learnings of Property & Land Laws, Maritime Laws, Energy Laws, Real Estate Laws, Rail, Road & Air Laws, Mining Laws, Banking & Insurance Laws, Competition Law, Economic Offences, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law, IPR Laws, Cyber Laws & AI, Data Privacy & Protection Laws, Disaster Management Laws, E-Commerce Laws, International Trade Laws, etc. At the end of the program, students go through a rigorous 3 month’s long Apprenticeship Training in a real corporate environment. Not to mention a 2 month’s Summer Internship Training at the end of 1st year!

The mentors for this program are eminent academicians and experienced practitioners from legal and business fraternity. Students go through intense training in corporates and consultancy firms and get hands-on experience to Legal & Regulatory transactions.

The themes at the forefront are legal frameworks, interpretations, managerial evaluations, policy interventions and community impacts. The program provides expertise in the areas of commercial bidding, Mergers & Acquisitions, restructurings, resource mobilization and complex project management in the global environment.

Who can apply?

Graduates (incl. final-year degree students) from any discipline such as inter-CA, inter-CS, B.Com., BBA, BCA, BE/B.Tech., B.Sc., LLB, etc. are eligible to join this program. • JGLS is ranked 33 and 58 in the world in the parameters of ‘Employer Reputation’ and ‘Academic Reputation’ respectively in the QS World University Ranking by subject 2021.
  • JGLS’s current global rank of 76 compared to previous rank in the 101-150 bracket is driven by a 45% increase in research citation and a 25% increase in the H-index of research output of JGLS.
  • JGLS is now ranked alongside highly reputable law schools including University of Bristol, University of Manchester, and George Washington University.
  • JGLS is ranked above some leading law schools including in the University of Nottingham, University of Warwick, University of Leeds, Griffith University, York University, Cardiff University, and SOAS in the UK.
  • Overall, JGU scored in 7 subjects in the ‘Social Science & Management’ category and in 2 subjects in the ‘Arts & Humanities’ category. JGU academic reputation in ‘Social Sciences & Management’ increased by 10% compared to the last year, which reflects the scholarly impact of research done by the faculty members of JGU.

Out of 976 law schools considered globally, only 320 made it to the QS World University Rankings by Subject (Law) 2021. The number of law schools around the world that are considered in these prestigious rankings is substantially more than institutions considered in other subject areas, which highlights the intense competition among law schools in the world.  JGLS, as the first and the only Indian law school to find a place in this year, puts India on the global map for legal education and higher education.

With a global rank of 76 this year, JGLS has jumped from the 101-150 bracket in the previous year. JGLS is ranked 33 and 58 in the world in ‘Employer Reputation’ and ‘Academic Reputation’ respectively, which are the two most important parameters in the QS World University Ranking by Subject. Jindal Global Law School’s significant improvement from the last year is driven by a 45% increase in research citation and a 25% increase in the H-index of research output of JGLS.

Reacting to this remarkable achievement, Mr. Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University, said, “The year 2020 has been a challenging year for higher education institutions worldwide. O.P. Jindal Global University has not only demonstrated transformation and resilience in these difficult times, but also led the path towards academic excellence. JGLS has risen in the ranks to enter the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject this year. As the only law school in India to feature in these rankings, it gives me great pride to see Jindal Global Law School feature among the world’s finest law schools. JGLS has put India on the world map of providing high-quality legal education, research and training.”

Chancellor Mr. Jindal, added that “As a twelve-year old university, this achievement is commendable. I congratulate all the members of our JGU family for making this possible through their commitment, dedication, team-work and perseverance in building a world-class institution. It is indeed a proud moment to be able to contribute consistently to the building of our country and the educational landscape. I congratulate our Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, and his outstanding colleagues in JGU and JGLS for bringing this important distinction to India.

To produce the rankings for this year, QS analysed close to 14 million unique scholarly papers, producing more than 80 million citations. 1453 institutions were ranked across 51 subjects in 5 broad subject areas (including social sciences which includes law), resulting in over 16,981 published entries. These figures reflect the scale behind this huge undertaking that QS carried out in order to produce the 2021 Subject Rankings, and the magnitude of global competition.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice-Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University welcomed this important milestone and said, “The news of JGLS being ranked 76 in the world is not only a significant achievement for JGU, but is also an extraordinary moment for Indian legal education. Achieving a place in the top 100 law schools in the world and sharing the stage with the world’s leading universities testifies JGU’s aspiration to be a world-class university. This remarkable achievement of rising from the 101-150 rank band last year to 76th position this year in the coveted QS World University Rankings by Subject (Law) 2021 is a landmark development in our relatively short institutional journey.”

Dr Raj Kumar added that “Our continuous efforts will be to further deepen our classroom instruction, instructional methods, global cooperation and quality of research, and elevate the quality of legal education in India. Being recognized as an ‘Institution of Eminence’ by the Government of India this academic year, along with the global lead rankings, only strengthens our faith in our ability to contribute positively to the higher education landscape of India”.

Established in 2009, JGU is private, non-profit university that is committed to promoting social sciences, arts and the humanities. Entering the elite top 100 of the world in the competitive discipline of law breaks longstanding stereotypes and prejudices about the ability of private universities to become world-class to place India on the world map.

Reminiscing over JGLS’ short journey since establishment in 2009, Professor Raj Kumar said, “JGLS being the first school at JGU makes this a very special moment. Particularly, as we started 2020 with one of the most unprecedented crises of our times, to imagine that we would use this as an opportunity to not just overcome the challenges, but take a leap forward to achieve this is truly very humbling, and fills me with a great sense of gratitude today I am grateful to the founding Chancellor and benefactor, Mr. Naveen Jindal for his vision, leadership and philanthropic support that brought us to where we are today. I deeply appreciate the outstanding contributions of my colleagues and the leadership team of JGLS, as well as the faculty for bringing a world-class learning experience to the students, and of course our students who have demonstrated a deep sense of dedication and commitment to their education.”

Furthermore, JGU scored in 9 out of 51 subjects within two broad areas of social science & management (7 out of 9) and arts & humanities (2 out of 9). These subjects include Business & Management Studies, Economics, Law, Social Policy, Sociology, Art & Design and Performing Arts. Overall, JGU’s score in academic reputation in ‘Social Sciences’ increased by 10%, which is a testament to the phenomenal academic achievement and scholarly impact of the work of JGU’s faculty.

On this monumental accomplishment, Professor (Dr.) S.G. Sreejith, Executive Dean, JGLS said, “JGLS started with 100 students and we have grown to over 4000 students in about a decade. During this period, we remain committed to our vision to bring world-class legal education to Indian students, and to provide them with a global perspective on law and legal developments. Today, JGLS being ranked alongside highly reputable law schools from where several of our own faculty members have graduated. In fact, it is very humbling for us to see that this JGLS has been able to surge ahead of some leading law schools of the world. This is humbling and it gives our vision a greater impetus to continue to enhance the experience of students and faculty members.

Professor Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar, JGU, while responding to this achievement said,“JGU has always aspired to become a world-class university in India with a mission to create global leaders of tomorrow. The news of JGLS being ranked as the 76th best law school in the world is an important milestone for us. This is a recognition of our pursuit of excellence in the field of legal education where our decade-long journey has culminated in ten inter-disciplinary schools, with more than 6600 students and over 830 full-time faculty members.”

Jindal Global Law School to Complete 2021 Admissions in June

0

In the light of CBSE, ICSE and all major class 12 board exams getting postponed, the Law School Admissions Council or LSAC, the USA-based non-profit known for organising LSAT Test worldwide and LSAT–India Test for Indian law schools took an unprecedented decision to advance its previously scheduled June Test to 29th May.

  • Jindal Global Law School to Complete 2021 Admissions in June
  • 14 May is the Last Date to Apply
  • AI-Enabled and Remote-Proctored LSAT-India Entrance Test to be held during 29 May to 2nd June

This decision helps Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) and many other law schools who use LSAT–India score for admission to their different programmes to complete the admissions process in the month of June itself.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University & Dean of Jindal Global Law School expressed his pleasure and satisfaction for this decision. He said:

“First of all, when board exams and all other tests are simply getting postponed and cancelled in the country creating an uncertain environment in higher education, LSAC advancing the LSAT–India Test to 29th May is a great relief for law aspirants and parents. Law aspirants will be free from their entrance exam burden and focus on their 12th board exams expected in the coming months.”

Secondly, he added that “in the changed situation of the cancellation of all 12th board exams, it was absolutely advisable to advance the entrance test dates to May when there is no board exam. LSAT–India being a fully Online, Remote-Proctored and Artificial Intelligence enabled Test can be taken from the comfort of student’s home or any other location without risking their health and safety in the present COVID-19 pandemic situation.”

Third and most important benefit as observed by Professor Raj Kumar is “advancing the test ends the perennial problem of one entrance exam conflicting with another putting students and parents under a lot of stress. There is no such conflict expected now and students can take their entrance exam peacefully.”

Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) in a communication to the students informed that “In response to the postponement of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examinations, LSAC Global is announcing that the June administration of the 2021 LSAT—India will be delivered over multiple days and slots starting 29 May 2021. The exam had originally been scheduled to begin the week of 14 June 2021. Due to uncertainty of the date for the Board exam, which will not be announced until at least June 1, LSAC Global felt it was unfair for the current class of law school aspirants to have to put their exam preparations on hold. Most importantly, the date change assures students that the exams will not fall in concurrent dates, giving students the flexibility to adequately prepare for both examinations. Extraordinary problems require extraordinary solutions and since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the LSAT—India has been administered through an online test delivery system utilizing artificial intelligence-assisted remote proctoring to secure the integrity and validity of the test. This format enables students to do the exam from the safety of their homes as well as continue with their law school entrance processes without interruption.”

Professor Anand Prakash Mishra, Associate Dean of Jindal Global Law School and Director of Law Admissions observed, “the Covid situation in the country demands early decisive action on the part of students and parents as well as the Universities and law schools like us to ensure higher studies of the youth must not suffer. As our law school is ready to commence its academic year on 1st August 2021 strictly as per our academic calendar, it’s simply fantastic to receive the LSAT Results in the month of June and complete the entire admission process of law school in June itself. Students can take their 12th boards later and join their law school classes in August first week.”

Professor Mishra further added that, “LSAT–India Test is critical for the admission process at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). It is the only entrance test for the popular 5-year BA/BBA LLB (Hons.) programme. It is also an important test for admission to the 3-year LLB, one-year LLM and the BA Legal Studies programmes at JGLS. Further LSAT–India is also a Test, the score of which has been used to award over 200 scholarships to the students enabling them to study at our law school.”

Jindal Global Law School was established in 2009 as India’s first and only global law school. Recently, it was Ranked Number 1 in India and 76th in the World as per the QS World University Rankings by Subject Law 2021. It is India’s only law school, which is ranked among the top 100 in the world. With over 450 full-time faculty members from more than 20 different countries, and over 3500 law students enrolled full-time in its residential programmes, JGLS is one of the leading law schools in Asia.

LSAT–India Test is a standardized exam of analytical reasoning, logical reasoning and reading comprehension. LSAT–India 2021 application closes on 14 May and the exam will be conducted during 29th May to 2nd June. Students can download past papers of the exam for free from its official website.

Interested students must register before 14 May at LSAT–India official website: www.discoverlaw.in

  • Intro to IIM Jammu & IIM Bodh Gaya’s IPM

Moderator: Despite having 20 older IIMs, how have IIM Jammu/IIM Bodh Gaya, the youngest IIMs, envisaged IPM as a prospective career option?

Panelist: We noticed that there is an outflow of bright & young students to pursue that graduation from abroad. Hence we have taken this step, ensuring to maintain global standards of teaching & education.

Sooner or later other IIMs are going to start this program. We have just taken lead among newer IIMs.

Moderator: Why 3 years graduation from IIM Jammu & IIM Bodh Gaya? How is it unique?

Panelist1: IPM is designed in such a way that it will build the right skills at the very right age of the student. Two years MBA is generally quick-paced, by the time you understand what MBA is, one year is over & students focus to get placed in 2nd year. Whereas in IPM, students are coached in portions such that their fundamentals are set right before joining the flagship program. Students learn, practice & evolve in a holistic manner with 360-degree growth.

Panelist2: Entering a top Indian school requires various steps of scrutiny, like CAT Exam, work-ex, & others. We wanted to capture the basic foundation so strongly that it surpasses the CAT exam & students are equipped enough to study MBA from a top b-school. It covers the breadth & depth of fundamentals in their 3 years of time.

  • IPM Specific

Moderator: Do you give an exit option after 3 years? IIM-Bodh Gaya/IM-Jammu what degree will be provided if the student wants to opt-out after 3 years?

Panelist: We strictly follow National Education Policy to provide the degree. We provide 3 exit options:

Exit after the 1st year of IPM- Basic Certificate in Management,

Exit after the 2nd year of IPM-  Advance certificate in Management,

Exit after 3rd year of IPM- A Degree of BBA (Bachelor In Business Management).

Panelist:

IIM-Jammu 60 seats(10 reserved for girls)

IIM-Bodh Gaya- 60 seats

Moderator: Does IIM provide internships to the students over the course of the first 3 years?

Panelist: Project will have opportunities in social & corporate internships. We believe in building social & cultural essence so in a boot camp at Ladakh. For IIM Jammu students will have a chance to experience beauty, understand people sustain their lives, understand how the business appears in that particular zone. We have conceptualized various tasks throughout the program to make our students capable of leading a good life & as responsible leaders.

Moderator: IIM Jammu has a foreign exchange program? Is it compulsory for all the students?

Panelist: Yes, we have a foreign exchange program and we have very good international partners. No, it is not compulsory, It is based on a merit list. After meeting certain basic criteria, students can apply for the foreign exchange program.

Moderator: Is one eligible to get admissions to MBA directly or it will be based on certain academic requirements after the first 3 years? During MBA, will the placement opportunities be the same?

Panelist: Once they clear the basic cut-off of 5.5 CGPA, they will be eligible for the flagship 2 year MBA program & there will be no difference.

Moderator: Any placement opportunities, for students who want to exit after 3 years?

Panelist: As of now, we haven’t thought about it. As it will be the first batch, we hope our students stay back with us.

Panelist: We are very hopeful to conduct the exams as per schedule, we will have to take a look at the situation & take the call.

Moderator: If a situation arises where boards will be further postponed, will you be conducting exams pre-boards?

Panelist: As of now, we can really predict the situation, hence management will discuss & take a decision.

Moderator: Will there be a sectional cut-off JIPMAT? Or will the overall score be taken?

Panelist: Overall cut-offs have not yet been decided, will be disclosed later probably after JIPMAT.

Moderator: Will the syllabus for QA be up to the 10th class or more than that?

Panelist: The syllabus for QA is up to the 10th class.

Panelist: No, only JIPMAT will be considered as an entrance exam for IPM for IIM Bodh Gaya & IIM Jammu.

Panelist: As of now, JIPMAT won’t be conducted offshore.

Leading Women-Only B School of India

Housed in its 265 acres “oasis in the desert” campus at Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan – Mody University is a leading women’s university of India and Asia-Pacific. School of Business, Mody University (SOB MU) – was launched in the year 2000 – much before diversity hiring & women leadership became buzzwords in the industry. However, as Dr. Sengupta, Dean SOB MU says, “It has been a B School ahead of its time – although we have a twenty year pedigree, our time has just arrived”.  It is the highest-ranked women-only B School of India.

Dr Anirban Sengupta, who took charge as the Dean of SOB MU in December 2018, brings in three decades of leadership experience. He worked at CRISIL and CEAT. Later he was the Vice President of FITCH Ratings India. His long and distinguished academic career include Centre Director, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad; Executive Director, International School of Business & Media (ISB&M) Pune; Dean, School of Business, UPES Dehradun. He has also taught at the Goa Institute of Management (GIM), and served as Visiting Faculty with IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, XIM Bhubaneshwar.

MBA – for Next Generation Women Leaders

Under the leadership of Dr. Sengupta, SOB MU has articulated its credo as – “Nation building Through Women Leadership” – and has repositioned its MBA program as one that is specifically designed for grooming “Next Generation Women Leaders”. Dr. Sengupta says, “Our MBA program goes beyond providing business knowledge, functional knowledge and soft skills. ‘Mindset-grooming’ is something where it stands out. ”

“Business is driven by men; B-school classrooms are dominated by boys (about 60 : 40 ratio of boys to girls); business case studies have mostly male protagonists. Despite increasing opportunity due to diversity hiring initiatives – women aspirants need to be specially trained in skills like assertiveness, self-confidence, visibility; ability to influence others; managing career transitions; communicating vision and strategy, networking skills, nurturing empathy but controlling emotions; learning how to speak up and get heard; developing mental resilience and agility for making successful comeback career-breaks and so on.”

“Being a business-school only for women – we had to rethink our MBA program in terms of content, delivery and positioning. Women Leadership and Women Entrepreneurship have been introduced as core subjects in Semester I and Semester II of our MBA program. We now have a 42 hour exclusive Women Leadership Development Program embedded in our MBA Program.- driven by well-known mentors from industry.  Besides, regular interactive sessions with women leaders across sectors and functions on a sustained basis – are all integral components of SOB MU MBA Program.”

Besides its MBA (Dual Specialization) program, SOB MU is launching a new MBA (Business Analytics) Program from the forthcoming academic year starting August 2021.

Amazing Industry Connect

Ever since taking charge, he has been reaching out to industry leaders, senior professionals and leaders from the academia, seeking their support to the cause of women leadership. The result is now showing up – SOB MU has got a hundred such professionals – known nationally as well as internationally – associated with it on a pro bono basis – as members of its Dean’s Advisory Council, International Advisory Committee, Board of Studies, Mentors, Industry Advisory Committee, Distinguished Visiting Faculty.  And – further support is pouring in!

Expanding portfolio of Under-graduate Programs

As Dr. Sengupta says, “We have an expanding thriving under-graduate program portfolio of BBA, B.Com (H), BA (H) Economics, 5 Year Dual Degree BBA + MBA Program – which is all set to increase with introduction of a number of domain-specific BBA pograms in the areas of Digital Marketing, Sports Management, Media and Communications, Logistics, Healthcare, Tourism & Hospitality, Airport & Airlines, Social Impact & Sustainable Development, etc. Based at Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan, SOB MU – the leading women-only B School of India – is an IIM Lakshmangarh in the making.

CUCET 2021: No more only Merit Based Admissions in Central Universities

0

Its final! Admissions to at least 41 Central Universities will be based on the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET). While there has been a lot of buzz since December 2020, when the Ministry of Education, Government of India made public its plan to conduct a common entrance test (CUCET) for admission to the undergraduate courses at the central universities. The exam aims to end the tyranny of the board marks as a basis for admissions to Central Universities, where cut-offs for some has skyrocketed in the last few years and reached an unprecedented high of 100% for some courses.

Ministry of Education, had formed a committee, headed by the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, which was working on the process for conducting a Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET). The committee after due deliberation and taking its own time against the one-month period expected, has finally submitted the report to the Ministry of Education, earlier this week. With the recommendations submitted by the high-level committee, it is expected that the exam shall be notified by April-end and the application process should start in May.

The first CUCET, for admissions to undergraduate courses in Central Universities, is likely to be conducted by June end. Its worth noting that CUCET is proposed to be conducted twice a year. However, for the academic year 2021, it will be conducted just once. CUCET, to be conducted online (Computer-Based Test) by National Testing Agency, will be held across multiple centres in the country.

The exam is expected to be mix of General Ability and subject knowledge tests. CUCET 2021 is expected to have two parts: Part A and Part B. While Part A will be a mix of Verbal Ability including Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Logical and Analytical Reasoning along with General Awareness, Part B will be based on subject knowledge. What will be the structure of Part B, will be an interesting wait! With board exams already in place, does it make sense to put the candidates through another test based on the subjects and one on which students have been tested barely a month before CUCET, is a question which remains unanswered as of now.

CUCET 2021 will be a three-hour online exam with 100 questions equally divided across the two parts. The CUCET committee has recommended that students must secure at least 50% to be considered for admissions. However, clarity is expected on overall or sectional cut-offs too. Moreover, Universities will be free to decide whether they will consider overall score of just one part of the paper.

Delhi University, had earlier, as per media reports clarified that it will be accepting CUCET 2021 and Board Marks for admissions and will give equal weightage to both. Other Central Universities are accepted to take a decision soon.

Stay tuned for more updates and do visit www.careerlauncher.com/cucet for regular updates and more information about central universities.

Digitization in Management Education – Need of the hour

0

Digitalization of education deemphasizes the top-down dissemination of standardized knowledge. As an educator, you go from disseminating knowledge orally, via in-class lectures, to putting it online in a variety of formats, including written text, videos, quizzes, and so on. While, almost by definition, oral lectures are prepared in advance, providing such content online frees up class time for more discussion.

We see the increased emphasis on interactive learning and discussion as one of the primary advantages of digitalization, since for us it’s the more interesting part of learning. IMS Ghaziabad’s mission is to cultivate socially responsible business leaders by fostering in them a growth mindset, a global perspective, contemporary business knowledge, skills and attitude to ensure a progressive outlook and focus on sustainable business models.

The volatility and the complexity of the environment has made it highly desirable that the institutions involved in the management education have to adopt transformative and disruptive process-innovations so that a systematic approach towards enhancing quality education can be facilitated. In the whole process, the institutions are expected to adopt evolutionary and revolutionary integration of content learning.

We must understand that the three key missions or objectives of management education are creating new knowledge which generates research. Second objective is disseminating the knowledge which results into the skill creation amongst the students; thirdly, the innovation creation as a result of knowledge acquisition and dissemination. Moreover, in the current scenario which has challenged the institutions to adopt digitization, it is highly significant to redefine the systems and processes regularly within the institutes. Not only this, we believe that the digitization has to be adopted as an enabler and facilitator for value creation and dissemination of the education.

IMS, Ghaziabad envisages the vision of preparing global leaders who can create, manage and effectively lead change across diverse organizations. We evaluate our success on one simple parameter i.e. how well our students succeed in realizing their potential and dreams and make this world a better world.

Aristotle said once that “Educating the mind is not education without educating the heart.” Therefore, academic excellence with character and personality growth is our ultimate objective at IMS Ghaziabad. Settling for average is not a choice in this age of cut-throat business and, thus, we offer the best planned instructional frameworks, including practical learning and online sessions with industry experts that train students in a safe way for the job market.

For more than three decades, IMS Ghaziabad has been excelling in academics and research in emerging areas of higher education with special reference to management studies and computer applications. This mission lays the foundation for translating dreams into realities by providing value based quality education to the students from all the sections of the society and making higher education an effective tool for socio-economic transformation of the Nation.

IMS Ghaziabad focuses on helping students discover the difficulties and reconsider how they accomplish growth in every aspect. Higher education is evolving, and a major transformation is taking place in many institutions. The mission of the organisation specifically defines its goal within the framework of higher education and explains who is represented by the institution and what it aims to achieve. The specified objectives and priorities of the institution, consistent with higher education aspirations and expectations, clearly define how the institution can fulfil its purpose.

These have led to increased harmonisation and mobility at the International level with the objective of protecting and enhancing standards, improving quality, promoting adaptability, employability and improving compatibilities of students.

IMS Ghaziabad has a balanced focus on the academic quality, corporate interface, global exposure, faculty development and student centric strategies leading to their corporate readiness, all the decisions are centered on these key areas which have become the competitive edge for our campus. Keeping these as our core areas, we have very recently initiated the implementation of Value Added Certification Courses in collaboration with MSME.

The certification courses are in the areas of digital and social media marketing, Google analytics, yellow belt in Six Sigma, financial markets and products, sales & negotiation skills etc. Besides these, Microsoft certification in Advance MS office is also part of course curriculum. These programmes superfluities PGDM Student’s knowledge and employability which aids to supplement the highly competitive and corporate relevant curriculum to make students better prepared to meet industry demands as well as develop their own interests and aptitudes. Short Term Training programmes for SPSS, CMIE’s Prowess, Aptitude Training, Placement Readiness Enhancement Programme, English Training are also part of overall course curriculum.

PPSP Module (Personal & Professional Skill Programme) is an integral part of the holistic development which focuses on personality aspects of students and helps to build them as capable corporate citizens. The modules are in sync with the academic and co-curricular activities like Self – Awareness & Industry Interface, Transition from Summer Internship Programme to Pre Placement Offer,  Goal Setting and Employability Skills etc.

With its internationally acclaimed faculty and teaching pedagogy, IMS Ghaziabad feels honoured to be associated with 6000+ Alumni base that are well established at the reputed positions in Industry.

How to Write a Response Paper?

0

Recently, I got a chance to engage with the first-year students at the School Of Law at BML Munjal University on the theme of writing a response paper. The interaction provoked me to write about this seemingly innocuous yet very important theme of responding to a text, which is largely ignored in most Indian law schools.  This short post is concerned with helping the students appreciate the art of writing a response paper. In this piece,  I first distinguish between a response paper and a research paper. This effort stems from the fact that during my interaction I found that majority of students assume both to be the same.  I shall then proceed to list important points that one should keep in mind when writing a response paper.

Students often confuse a response paper with a research paper. While both may have commonalities, yet they are not the same. While a research paper involves answering a self-identified research question,  a response paper involves responding to a text that has been written by another author.

When we read, we are not conscious of the manner in which our mind processes the data or text we are feeding it. However, silently, our mind is making notes of the points in text with which we agree and the ones with which we do not. We may also appreciate or criticise the manner of writing of the author. A response paper demands you to become conscious of these thoughts and actively register them.

Therefore, the first step that I would suggest to students who are writing a response paper is to closely read the text they are responding to. If you are not aware of how to do close reading, I suggest you read Critical Reading in the Social Sciences by Manuel Vallée. Keep a pen and paper handy and write down the first thought that comes to your mind when you read each line. This would allow you to be conscious of your agreements and disagreements with the author and also identify the paragraphs that you find difficult to understand.

The beginning of a response paper involves making the reader familiar with the arguments of the author with whom the response is concerned. In one crisp paragraph, you should be able to summarise their important points. Please ensure that you paraphrase instead of copying their thesis verbatim. Once you have written a short summary and made the reader familiar, you should be able to convey in brief, your own take on the text. This shall form the thesis of your response to the text.

The rest of the response paper shall comprise of your justification and evidence to back your thesis. Your thesis is the primary claim you make in a paper. If you are dividing the response paper in a conventional introduction, body and conclusion format, then your body should consist of the following :

  • Points on which you agree with the author
  • Your disagreements with the author
  • Identification of strength and weaknesses
  • Identification of author’s assumptions and biases
  • Your own worldview and take on the points

Ideally, the conclusion should not contain any new arguments. The conclusion should be used to convince the user that you have been able to prove your thesis with the help justification provided and evidence advanced. Your conclusion may contain a restatement of your thesis(however, it is advised that you paraphrase it instead of copying it verbatim) followed by how you have achieved what you claimed in your thesis statement.

I would like to conclude with the caveat that when you would read good response papers, it may or may not fit in the exact structure laid out above. The reason behind that is because there is no one particular correct method of writing a good response paper. However, you would still find the essential components present in any paper. Do not stress about this if you are a beginner. You may use the above as a checklist as you start. Gradually as you write more in law school, your writing will develop the skill of writing response papers more effectively even without a checklist at hand.
