3.CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2022 Paper Pattern
The new CBSE Class 10 Board Exam paper has a very different pattern from previous years.
5 mark questions have been introduced in the CBSE Math paper. These are long answer questions that are mostly based on the NCERT Maths Textbook.
Case Study questions have been introduced for the very first time. These are conceptual questions based on real-life applications. These will form 20% of the paper, which is 16 marks.
Objective Type Questions which are in the form of 1 mark questions such as V.S.A ( very short answer questions), MCQs ( Multiple Choice Questions), Fill in the Blanks, True or False Questions will form 30% of the paper, which is 24 marks.
Hence 50% of the paper ( 40 marks) will be Competency-Based Questions that assess the application of concepts in real-life/ unfamiliar.
The detailed question paper pattern for CBSE Board Exam 2022 has not been released yet. Below is the Question Paper pattern followed in 2021.
The CBSE Class 10 Board question paper 2021 contained two parts A and B.
Both Part A and Part B will have internal choices.
Part – A
1.This part consists of 2 sections- I and II.
2.Section I has 16 questions of 1 mark each. Internal choice is provided in 5 questions.
3.Section II has 4 questions on a case study. Each case study has 5 case-based sub-parts. An examinee is to attempt any 4 out of 5 sub-parts.
Part – B:
- Question No 21 to 26 are Very short answer type questions of 2 mark each
- Question No 27 to 33 are Short Answer Type questions of 3 marks each
- Question No 34 to 36 are Long Answer Type questions of 5 marks each.
- Internal choice is provided in 2 questions of 2 marks, 2 questions of 3 marks and 1 question of 5 marks.
4 How to prepare for CBSE Class 10 Maths Board Exam?
The Class 10 NCERT Maths Textbook questions should be thoroughly revised before the Board Exams. At least 10 Board Exam Sample papers needs are practised keeping 3 hours time Limit. Do not forget to practice the new pattern Case Study Questions, as these questions can be tricky and unfamiliar, and require out of box thinking.
One day before the Class 10 Math Board Exam
– Revise all Triangles and Circles Theorems
– Go through Chapter Wise Formulas
– Keep compass box ready with scale, compass, protractor, ad 2 sharpened pencils.
– Eat and sleep well
On the day of the Class 10 Maths Board Exam
– Use 15 minutes of reading time to carefully go through the question paper
– In questions with OR option decide which question you will attempt
– use the reading time to also read at least 2 case study questions and understand
– Be careful about time spent per question. Ideally spend 35 minutes for the 16 1 mark descriptive questions, 30 minutes for the case study questions, 30 minutes for 2 mark questions, 40 minutes for 3 marks questions and 30 minutes for 5 mark questions and 15 minutes for checking the paper
– Write neatly. Highlight all the final answers
– Do not write too many steps for 1 mark questions
5) CBSE Class 10 Maths Case Study Questions
The CBSE Class 10 Maths Exam will be most likely conducted in March 2022. The CBSE has included case study based questions for the Class 10 Maths Board Exam for the very first time. There will be four case study sets in the Class 10 Maths Board Question Paper (as per the 2021 paper pattern) each with 5 sub-questions.
Students need to attempt 4 of these sub-questions. The case study section alone is worth 16 marks which is 20% of the total marks, which students cannot risk losing.
Such type of questions is entirely new for the Class 10 students. These case studies will check the comprehension and interpretation skills of the students. The NCERT Math Class 10 textbook, previous board papers and regular school worksheets do not give the best insights on how to grasp, understand, or solve these seemingly long questions in the shortest time possible. The problem is there a huge dependency on memorizing and reproducing content. Even in Math, as long as the question is familiar, students have the confidence to solve it. This type of study does not work for solving case studies. In addition to memory, students need to understand the case study, see how to apply learnt concepts, and then solve the questions.
Students may join the Case Study 101 Course for sufficient practice for Case Study Type Questions. The course covers all important aspects of Case Study preparation, including out of box thinking and mathematical literacy which will help in scoring 16 out of 16 marks in the Case Studies.

- What is the difference between the Standard Level and Basic Level of Mathematics in the class X Board examination to be held in 2022?
The existing Mathematics examination pattern which was followed up to Board exam 2019 is the Standard Level Examination. Two levels of papers were introduced for the first time in 2020. Standard-Level and Basic-level Question papers shall be based on the same syllabus. However, Standard-Level Mathematics assesses higher Mathematical abilities compared to Basic-Level. Accordingly, the difficulty level of the Mathematics – ‘Basic’ is less than that of Mathematics-‘Standard’
The idea is to make the evaluation more students centric and reduce the pressure on the student who doesn’t want to pursue Mathematics after class X.
The below table shows the main differences with respect to percentage distribution with respect to type of questions for the Standard and Basic Paper
STANDARD PAPER | BASIC PAPER
S. No. | Typology of Questions | Total Marks | % Weightage (approx.) | Total Marks | % Weightage (approx.)
1 | Remembering: Exhibit memory of previously learned material by recalling facts, terms, basic concepts, and answers. Understanding: Demonstrate understanding of facts and ideas by organizing, comparing, translating, interpreting, giving descriptions, and stating main ideas |
43 | 54 | 60 | 75 | |
2 | Applying: Solve problems to new situations by applying acquired knowledge, facts, techniques and rules in a different way. | 19 | 24 | 12 | 15
3 | Analysing : Examine and break information into parts by identifying motives or causes.
