United India Insurance Company Limited Exam (for Generalist) – 2016 Analysis
United India Insurance Company Exam, 2016 was conducted on June 12, 2016. The paper was divided into two parts – objective and descriptive. A total of 120 questions had to be answered in 120 mins in the objective paper. Each question was followed by 5 options. An incorrect answer will reduce a candidate’s score by ¼ of the marks allotted to the question. In the descriptive paper, a student was required to write a letter and an essay on any one of the given topics.

English Language
The section was primarily designed to check students’ knowledge of grammar. Questions on Error Spotting required students to pay close attention to the sentences. Sentence Improvement questions were pretty easy; a student should have easily attempted all the sentence improvement questions. The Reading Comprehension passage was followed by a mix of direct, indirect and vocabulary based questions.

General Awareness
This section saw a mix of questions from static GK and current GK. A majority of the questions were related to financial sector. AÂ few questions on scientific research and insurance were also covered in this section.
Computer Literacy
The section was devised to test the students’ computer knowledge. Questions were based on computer applications, keyboard function keys, operating system, application software, internet, computer languages, etc.
Descriptive Test
In the Descriptive Paper, students had to attempt two questions in 30 minutes. In the first question, the students were required to write an essay. In the second question, the students were required to write a letter. For both the questions, students were given three choices. The topics of the essay and the letter were related to insurance.

UIIC AO Objective Examination: Given below is a table highlighting the exam pattern.

The objective test except test on “English Language†will be bilingual. For each wrong answer, one fourth of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted from those obtained.
UIIC AO Descriptive Examination: Immediately after the objective test, a descriptive test will be administered. This section consists of two writing tasks, viz. letter and essay writing, to be completed in 30 minutes.
Last minute tips for UIIC AO exam
Reasoning AbilityÂ
- Select the questions you are most comfortable with.
- Skip time consuming questions.
- Questions based on Blood Relations and Puzzles might be lengthy to read. But don’t skip all of them, go through them and if you think you can solve them quickly, go ahead with them.
Quantitative Aptitude
- You need to dedicate 30% of your total time towards QA section.
- Avoid calculation intensive questions. Try to pick up questions which require lesser time to solve.
- Don’t do guess work. This might reduce your score, if it goes wrong.
English Language
- Solve Cloze Test first. It consumes lesser time and it’s easier to solve.
- Attempt RC based questions only if you have extra time. Sometimes, RC might be long and difficult to comprehend.
General AwarenessÂ
- Go through basic insurance terms.
- Read current affairs of last six months.
- Attempt this section first. It can fetch you more marks in lesser time. Avoid any sort of guess work.
Descriptive Exam: While writing letter and essay answers, stick to the word limit and ensure that all key points are incorporated in it. Remember, the format of the letter carries significant weightage.
