EXAMINATION TREND: GMAT vs CAT

  • Analytical Writing Assessment, Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal Ability.
  • Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability.

 

  • Because it is computer adaptive, the test automatically adjusts itself. With each correct answer, the difficulty level increases. In the same manner, with each incorrect answer the difficulty level decreases.
  • High proficiency requirement in all the sections.
  • The difficulty level of Quant section is lower than CAT.
  • 5 attempts are allowed per year but with a minimum gap of 16 days between each attempt.

 

  • The exam is held only once a year.

 

 

 

SYLLABUS CONCENTRATION: GMAT vs CAT

Quantitative Ability Section

Both GMAT and CAT give problems to solve in pre-algebra, algebra, statistics, geometry, numeric properties, and so on. Also, CAT allows the use of a calculator for quant section while GMAT doesn’t.

However, CAT quant section targets more on solving problems mentally despite the use of a calculator.

Verbal Ability Section

The concentration on comprehension for the verbal ability section is heavier for CAT, while the weightage on English grammar is heavier for GMAT. Unlike GMAT, CAT Verbal Ability deals with paragraph structures and not grammatical structures.

CAT Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and GMAT Integrated Reasoning section

This section is where CAT and GMAT run in a very different direction with the only common comparability being graphs, mathematical operations and charts. The graphs and charts for CAT exam is less complex compared to GMAT. GMAT graphs and charts are more detailed.

CAT Logical Reasoning

CAT LR requires detection and comprehending of the logical patterns which is something GMAT doesn’t directly include in their test.
