GMAT scores

With international education gaining popularity in past few years, GMAT and GRE are one of the most desired exams among graduates aspiring for top global universities. A large number of aspirants aim for safe GMAT scores to ensure a safe and easy ride through the admission process.

If you are looking forward to a stress-free accession in a top B-School, this is the time to shift some gears and work that extra bit to ensure a good GMAT score.

You must wonder what GMAT scores look like? Well, it’s not like most other entrance tests you may have given. GMAT scores are valid for five years, with an option of taking the test again. Here is what you need to know about the scoring scheme.

Total, Verbal, and Quantitative Scores

GMAT scores consist of four parts –

An overall score, ranging from 200 to 800.

A math sub-score, ranging from 0 to 60.

A Verbal and Quantitative score, ranging from 0 to 60

Scores below 9 and above 44 for Verbal and below 7 and above 50 for the Quantitative section are rare.

The score for the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), range from 0 to 6 with half point intervals.

If the exam is not completed in the stipulated time, the score will be calculated based on the number of questions answered, given that none of the sections were left blank. The score, however, will decrease significantly with each unanswered question.

Analytical writing

The analytical writing section makes use of two different graders, each of whom grade in a range of 0 to 6 along with a computer device, commonly referred to as ‘e-rater’. The sections are checked with a trivial perspective in mind, taking into account, all the aspects of the content, style and grammar. A common score, if observed by the two graders, will be assigned. Else, a third grader will determine the final score.

In addition, B-Schools can even receive copies of the typewritten essays. Although, the score in this section does not affect your 200-800 overall score.

The Integrated Reasoning Score

If you have attempted a GMAT mock or taken the GMAT previously, you may know that the Integrated Reasoning section requires more than one response. The questions are designed to measure your ability to integrate information, compile data to solve complex problems.

The IR section compiles a score ranging from 1 to 8 (with no partial credit).

The Official GMAT Scores Report

The unofficial scores of the Verbal, Quantitative and Integrated Reasoning sections are available immediately, along with the total score after you complete the test.

Within 20 calendar days of testing (time may vary in delivery time), you will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to access the Official Score Report online. You may view, download, or print your report for future references.

Was all that a bit confusing? Don’t worry!
Whatever the evaluation, the fact of that matter is, increase your speed, work hard on the basics and take as many mock tests as you can. The exam is well structured and designed to make sure you have just enough time for each question.
